For 25 years now, the Belarusian State Academy of Aviation has been training future aviation specialists at the Department of Traffic Management and Safety in Air Transport.

In 1996, by order of the Head of the College, the Department of Flight Support and Air Traffic Management was established. The training of specialists of the first level of higher education in "Traffic Management and Control on Transport" specialisation - "Air Transport Traffic Management" began.

The Department is a major, trains specialists in air traffic control in accordance with international requirements of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) for the training of specialists in air traffic control. ICAO has the following requirements for these professionals: a high level of professional training to ensure flight safety at the appropriate level, knowledge of English language at level IV in accordance with the ICAO scale.

And also this department is an educational-scientific structural subdivision of the educational establishment "Belarusian State Academy of Aviation" which together with teaching lessons on special disciplines, carries out scientific-research work, participates in international seminars and conferences on preparation of aviation specialists. Due to high quality of teaching at the faculty cadets from the CIS and other foreign countries are trained and defend their final qualification works.

The cadets of this specialty, namely group У119, decided to demonstrate the skills acquired during their training by using a special simulator. At the open practical lesson, led by Vladimir Pilipchuk, it was possible to observe air traffic control using the "ATC electronic training complex". The complex consists of software for ATC simulator and programs simulating pilot-operator work. It is used for practical and laboratory work on disciplines. At the beginning of the session, Vladimir identified the main questions for the cadets and worked through them together with the group so that their circle or route flight would be successful.

The cadets communicated using the rules of phraseology and looked at the navigation maps of Belarusian aerodromes to plot their routes. It is not easy to find the right route at the right points and avoid colliding with other aircraft or getting into a danger zone. Each cadet was involved in a specific workplace: taxiing, launch, circle and approach controllers of Minsk ADC (Aerodrome Dispatch Center), DDC (District Dispatch Center) controllers together with pilots-operators performing route and circle flights, and LDC (Local Dispatch Center) "Brest" and "Gomel" controllers were located in the classroom. During the exercise, the cadets performed a pre-flight check, checked the aircraft's route and gave permission for take-off, followed the flight carefully, analysing each of their actions, and then allowed landing at the destination airport. All interactions took place in accordance with the rules on the use of phraseology.

The work of future aviators was supervised by Alexey Dubovsky, Head of Department of Traffic Management and Safety on Air Transport, Ivan Baraban, Roman Vishnevsky and Olga Vareiko, Doctor of Engineering, Professor Oleg Skrypnik. The guests followed closely the work of the group, and the cadets, in turn, tried to demonstrate in the best way possible the knowledge acquired during their studies, accurately using the phraseology of radio communication and applying aviation regulations. At the end of the practical session, Vladimir analysed the work of each cadet and assessed their efforts.

That's how active and entertaining the classes are at the Belarusian State Academy of Aviation.
